"A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit."
(Matthew 7:18)

The creation of the universe by God stands in contrast to a material world. God is Spirit, and so creation by Spirit is spiritual, not material. As our lesson states: "Matter, with its mortality, cannot be substantial if Spirit is substantial and eternal." Jesus reminds us that we cannot serve both Spirit and matter.
