According to modern medical science, "There is no cure for the common cold." Most people just accept that colds are a part of life. That winter is a season for "catching a cold." And after a few days, it will clear up, with maybe a lingering cough for a bit longer. As Christian Scientists, do we allow this concept to creep into our thought? Sometimes the pictures of national division and upheaval, with violent protests (as we’ve recently seen in Minneapolis), can seem overwhelming…and destructive of hope and faith. Jesus warned about (and predicted) the emergence of such pictures, but that we shouldn’t be afraid. He was unshakably confident in His sense of the safety and presence of His Father’s kingdom. How can we pray about this cold weather? Are there examples in the Bible of people who were saved from severe weather. Yes! There are many. This week, we will be reading about Paul's journey to Italy, and how he and the crew of his ship were saved from a severe storm. A cause is that which brings about an effect or a result. The Bible points to God as the one divine Cause of all effects. Correctly interpreted, both the Cause and the effect are not material, but spiritual. Spirit is that which never changes, is all substance, and is eternal. Click the image for more.

Mary Baker Eddy knew the importance of prayer. She understood it as that which brings the individual into harmony, or alignment, with the Science of being. Prayer is so important, she made it the very first chapter in the Christian Science textbook.
