A cause is that which brings about an effect or a result. The Bible points to God as the one divine Cause of all effects. Mary Baker Eddy knew the importance of prayer. She understood it as that which brings the individual into harmony, or alignment, with the Science of being. Prayer is so important, she made it the very first chapter in the Christian Science textbook.

To be morally pure is important. This is what Isaiah means when he says, "Wash you, make you clean." It is also important not to live a life of guilt. Jesus showed us the way to live this life. It begins by acknowledging God, Spirit, as the source of man's nature and essence. Through this we learn that, even if we feel the weight of sin, the Science of our true being cleanses our thoughts.
